Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at South Park Cemetery for Winnie Mae "Sue"Shaw, 92, cherished mother, grandmother, sister
and friend who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Crane, Texas.
The Rev. Bill Jones, pastor of Tinnie Baptist Church, will officiate.
Sue was born June 15, 1905, near the town of Kemp in the Indian Nations of the Oklahoma Territory. She was one of eight children born to Charles and Sarah Fields French.
She graduated from Ropes High School where she excelled in sports, especially
as a member of the six-woman basketball team. She continued her education and graduated from Lubbock Business College.
Sue married Otis Olen Shaw Dec. 22, 1928, in Lubbock. Together they had four children. She worked along-side her husband in his many businesses and raised her four children. Sue was a member of Eastern Star, the Midway Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Tinnie.
She was very active in state politics of her beloved New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Sue is survived by three sons and one daughter, Jimmy Charles and his wife, Ruth, of Roswell, Jerry Wayne and his wife, Lillie, of Socorro, Patricia Richardson and her husband, Bob, of Crane, Texas and Otis Michael and his wife, Betsy, of Albuquerque; sisters, Nora Huffman and Vera Elkins of San Diego, Ann Ferguson of Mesa, Ariz., and Hazel Melton of Portales; and brother-in-law, Johnnie Gover of Roswell; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sue's name to the Tinnie Baptist Church.
