Actor, singer, musician. Antonie had originally aspired to be an attorney and was in law school when he was chosen to play the part of Peter Kelder in the Dutch soap opera "Good Times, Bad Times." He dropped out of law school and became the most popular character on the program, which led to his starring role in "De Kleine Blonde Dood." (The Little Blonde Death). Although soap opera actors were considered "inferior" to other actors, he was nominated for the Goulden Kalf award for best actor, the highest screen award in the Netherlands and equivalent to the Oscar in the United States. He also starred in the film "All Stars" in 1997 and sang the theme song "Toen Ik Je Zag" (When I Saw You). The song became a number one hit, released as a single under his character's name, "Hero." He played in several more films and soap operas as well as musicals, where he starred in the musical versions of "Turkish Delight" and "Sunset Boulevard." He was well known for his charitable work with the organization "Edukans," which continues to work toward the United Nations Millennium Goals in developing countries (MG 2 & 3) of creating equality between boys and girls and ensuring a complete primary education for all children by the year 2015. He was praised for his work in this area. He suffered from depression for many years and committed suicide in his home. When this news was released, a special website was created where millions of people from all over the world expressed their condolences.
