Johann Haubrich Lohr
(11/26/1719-10/12/1802)
who came to America from Germany in 1749
on the ship "Two Brothers" with his two
brothers Hans Peter Lehr and Johann Phillibus
Lohr. They all settled in Bucks Co. Pennsylvania.
The original spelling of his name was Loehr (loo' - wer). On the ship's passenger log Haubrich and Phillibus signed their surname as Lohr, Peter signed his as Lehr. The surname further derived into Leer and Lear.
The descendants of Haubrich Lohr use both these spellings: Lehr and Lear, and populated the county of Northampton, as well as Lehigh.
Arnold was the son of Johann Anthony Leer Sr. (born 1742 in Germany) and Maria Catharina Leer (born 1745). Arnold and his siblings originally used the Lehr spelling, but some then used the Leer and Lear spelling.

On April 7, 1807, Arnold E. Leer bought 150 acres of land . . . on what is now "Twin Lear Road," located three miles north of Point Pleasant overlooking the Delaware River in Tinicum Township.
During 1825 Arnold E. Leer built a beautiful large stone house for his family which is still standing. A plaque bearing the initials "AEL" and the year "1825" is attached to the upper wall of the house. The homestead was left by Arnold E. to his twin sons Joseph G. and John G. with the understanding that they would care for their brother, Aaron, who was either sickly or retarded.
