John N. Lear Sr., 58*, of 607 Northampton St. Eason, died at 10 a.m. yesterday in Easton Hospital, where he was a patient for the last week. He had been in failing health for the last month.

Born Dec. 15, 1903* in Vallejo CA, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Augusta Margeson Lear. He resided at the Northampton St. address for the last six months. He formerly resided at 153 S. Sixth St. Easton.

He was employed for about 11 years as a moulder for Lehigh Inc. West Easton, and later worked for the Alpha Portland Cement Co. Martins Creek.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

*His year of birth was actually 1904, according to Napa County birth records. No city was listed on his birth record, so he may have been born outside the city limits. According to the 1904-05 city directory, the family lived at 318 Grant Avenue in Napa CA. He was 57, not 58 when he died.

During the course of my genealogy research I not only confirmed my German heritage, which was told to me as a child, but discovered I also have Native American ancestry. Both my paternal grandparents were Lenape descendants, making me one also.

I've yet to pinpoint the full blooded Native American ancestor on either of their branches.
