Son of:
John Christian Schmidt Sr.
and Catharine Odenwelder
Catharine was the daughter of:
Johann Philip Odenwelder and Anna Maria Rent(s)

John's parents were married
on December 13, 1760
in Bedminster Twp. PA, Bucks Co.

John Jr. had two other brothers also named John:

John Michael Schmidt (Smith) b. 1779
(who married Susan Losey)

John William Schmidt (Smith) b. 1781
(who married Susan Transue)

His brother Philip Schmidt b. 1771
married his wife Barbara's sister
Dorothy Smith (d/o Stuffle Smith)

I believe it is a strong possibility
that John and his wife Barbara may have
been first cousins, meaning that their
fathers may have very well been brothers.
This, however, has not been proven as of yet.

John's father arrived in Philadelphia PA
in September 1743 on ship "Loyal Judith."
The surname Schmidt was changed to Smith
sometime thereafter. John's father was born
in Wurtemburg Germany about 1739 and died
in 1806 in Delaware Twp. PA, Wayne Co.

I descend from John's son
Frederick Smith (b. 1800)
who married
Christine Hilgert (Hilliard).
They were my gr-grandparents x4
