Following a week's illness with pleuro-pneumonia, Mrs. Amanda C. Rinker, widow of Franklin Rinker, died at 7:30 o'clock last evening at her home, 753 Wolf At., aged 62 years.

She was a member of St. Mark's Reformed Church of this city.

According to the Sept. 20, 1850 So. Easton PA Census

Amanda Ackerman 3m listed as born June 1850 & was in the hh w/Charles Bartholomew 63y, Elizabeth Bartholomew 23y(supposing this to be her mother), Catharine Bartholomew 21y, Lucy Bartholomew 5y, Sarah Bartholomew 3y, and Jacob Bartholomew 29y

According to the 1860 Hanover Twp. PA Census, Amanda Leibenguth 10y was in the hh w/Joseph Leibenguth 30y, Elizabeth Leibenguth 31y, Emma Leibenguth 7y, Sarah Leibenguth 5y, and Hesikiah 2y

Even though the census info & her obit list her year of birth as 1850, contrary to her tombstone which says 1852, I've listed her year of birth as 1852 in agreement with the cemetery records.

I shall be doing further research on John Ackerman, the biological father of Amanda Rinker.

I'm not sure if Amanda was actually adopted by Joseph Leibenguth, or if she was just listed under the family surname (which was now her mother's married name) and just assumed the name; however she is listed as Amanda Leibengood in the March 29, 1919 Lehigh Co. PA record of her daughter Gertrude Rinker's marriage to Raymond Schwar. Yet, in the 1941 obit of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Rinker Altemus, she is listed as the late Amanda Ackerman Rinker. I'm still researching this matter.
__________________________

According to Amanda's death certificate (File #3540), she was born June 5, 1851 and her parents are listed as
Joseph Leibengood and Elizabeth Bartholomew

According to Amanda's daughter Ellen Rinker Altemus' 1941 death certificate, the name given for Ellen's mother (maiden name) is:
Amanda Bartholomew.
(Bartholomew was the maiden name of Amanda's mother Elizabeth Leibenguth.)
BUT
in Ellen's obituary it states she is the daughter of Frank and Amanda Ackerman Rinker.

According to Amanda's son William F. Rinker's 1937 death certificate, the name given for William's mother (maiden name) is:
Amanda Leibengood.

According to Amanda's daughter Gertrude E. Rinker Schwar's 1947 death certificate, the name given for Gertrude's mother (maiden name) is:
Amanda Leibengood

I therefore conclude that Amanda was the biological daughter of John Ackerman and after her mother married Joseph Leibengood she then became known by that name and it seemed that her family, well aware of the history of her name, used either surname when referring to her.
