Calixto "Charlie" Anaya, Jr. was a firefighter with Engine 4 in Manhattan whose life was taken tragically while in the line of duty at the September 11, 2001, World Trade Center Attack. He was 35.
Born June 19, 1966, in Manhattan, to Calixto and Lydia Anaya Sr., Calixto enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1984 until 1988 and then re-enlisted himself in 1991 to serve in Desert Storm and was honorably discharged in 1992.
He married Marie Laure Maurin on April 27, 1990, in Kew Gardens, Queens. Calixto was a member of Suffern Volunteer Hose Company #1. He also was a coach for the Suffern Little League T-Ball and the Suffern Midget Mounties Flag Football Programs.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Marie at home; three loving children, Kristina Marie, Brandon, and Rebecca, also at home; his father, Calixto Anaya Sr., of Saudi Arabia; his mother, Lydia Anaya, of Kissimmee, Fla.; one sister, Melissa, and one brother, David, both of Kissimmee, two godsons, Ruben Perez of Kissimmee and Harry Perez of New York City; one goddaughter, Jillian Abato of Suffern, also survives.
Charlie will be dearly missed by his family and friends and will always remain in our hearts. We will always remember the loving and wonderful husband, father, son, brother, nephew and friends he was, and the sacrifice that he made to save others. Charlie you are our hero and you will forever be the wind beneath our wings. Rest in Peace.
A gathering of family and friends to remember Charlie will be held on Wednesday November 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Suffern Volunteer Hose Company #1, 35 Washington Ave Suffern, Firematic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Charlie's Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church 125 Lafayette Ave, Suffern.
