Born May 21, 1923, in Summers County, he was the son of the late Eldridge Ellison Sr. and Oma Williams Ellison.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hinton, and was a member and treasurer of the John Wesley Bible Class, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a lifelong member and past commander of VFW Post No. 4500, a 50-year member of Hinton Masonic Lodge No. 62 AF and AM and served as past recorder, a member of Beni Kedem Temple Lodge at Charleston, Silver Leaf Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member and officer of the Hinton Lions Club, Loyal Order of the Moose No. 993, Hinton Elks Lodge No. 821, NARVRE No. 100, Bobcat Boosters Club and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Mr. Ellison was a real estate broker for more than 25 years, a notary public for 20 years, a representative for Markette Advertising for more than 30 years and retired in 1985 as a locomotive engineer for the Chessie System following 38 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lalon Ellison; two sisters, Emma Jean Ellison Harvey and Eva Ellison Dobbins; and a stepsister, Patricia Tyree Ames.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Wilma Jean Hicks Ellison; a son, Robert Wayne Ellison, and wife Regina of Hinton; a daughter, Barbara Elaine Webb of Hinton; a sister, Margie Allen of Nimitz; a stepbrother, Garland Tyree, and wife Lorene, of Nimitz; three grandchildren, Amanda Dawn and Robert Wayne Ellison Jr., both of Athens, and Tyler Ray Ellison of Copperas Cove, Texas; two step grandchildren, Devin Cherene Dillon of Athens and Breanna Michelle Dillon of Hinton; three brother-in-laws, Roy L. "Bud" Dobbins, Lloyd Harvey, both of Nimitz, and Robert Douglas Hicks and wife, Joy, of O'Fallon, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16th at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Ken Price officiating. Burial followed in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.
Members of the Hinton Masonic Lodge No. 62 AF and AM serviced as pallbearers and conducted graveside rites.
