His death certificate lists Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, as his birth location, which is the reason it is used above. However, one of his children's death certificates claims Soloman was born in Cumberland County while another lists Luzerne County. This researcher has no idea which is true. He married Margaret Hinkle and fathered Samuel J. (b. 10/20/50), Cyrus (b. 02/25/54 [?]), Jacob E. (b. 07/16/54 [?]) Harriet (b. 08/10/57 - married a Stimeling), Sarah Ann (b. 01/07/60 - married Samuel H. Snyder), Clara A. (b. 03/02/62 - married George A. Brown), Kate (b. @1867), Harry (b. @1869), Rebecca (b. @1870), and Joseph (b. 07/01/71). In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, and stood 5' 11" tall with auburn hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lebanon February 11, 1862, mustered into federal service at Philadelphia that same day as a private with Co. H, 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry (113th Pa), and honorably discharged with his company May 16, 1865.

He died following a sustained illness at his son Samuel's home.
