A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg July 27, 1862, mustered into federal service there July 28 as a private with Co. A, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 8, 1863.
He married Emily Yeager and fathered Eleanor Virginia (b. 10/28/73 [calculated]), Belle S. (b. 07/04/74), Ellen (b. @1876), and James G. (b. 01/??/78). He was widowed by 1880 but apparently married Maedora Desmarais. In 1890, he was living in Salt Creek Village, Pueblo County, Colorado, but ca. 1913 was back in Pennsylvania and by 1920 was living with his sister Clara in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County. Suddenly taken ill while working in his garden, he died later that day from "valvular disease of heart and acute indigestion."
