GASTONIA - Lawson Hendricks Stowe Jr., 87, died Feb. 24, 2008, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Lawson Hendricks Stowe Sr. and Annie West Stowe.

He was a veteran of the 2nd Marine Division, U. S. Marines during W.W. II serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a retired Gaston County Tax Appraiser with over 20 years service, a member of the National Association of Appraisers and a member of Flint Groves Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Millsaps Stowe; one sister, Joy Stowe Grant of Gastonia; three sisters-in-law, Carol L. Stowe of Gastonia, Rosa M. Stowe of Tampa, Fla. and Hazel Paris of Akron, Ohio; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, David and Kim Denton of Gastonia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Mae Stowe Featherstone; and brothers, Thurman Stowe, Price Stowe, Harold Stowe and Robert Stowe.

Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Veterans Section of Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, N.C., with Military Rites by the U.S. Marine Corps.
