Mr and Mrs. Adam Loffler, Ogdensburg, formerly of Malone, have received a letter from the US Adjutant General, Ulio, giving details concerning the death of their son, Pfc. Floyd Loffler, who died in a prisoner of war hospital in Germany on March 6.
The letter states:
Dear Mr and Mrs Loffler:
It is with deep regret that I am writing to confirm the recent telegram informing you of the death of your son, Pfc. Floyd D. Loffler, Inf., who was previously reported missing in action since 20 Jan 1945.
Information has now been received from the Provost Marshal General stating your son died in a POW camp in the vicinity of Donaueschingen, Baden, Germany, on March 6 as a result of injuries received in action. He suffered a gunshot wound in the upper left thigh shattering the hip. The report further states that 3rd degree frostbite and general sepsis were contributory causes.
I realize the burden of anxiety that has been yours and deeply regret the sorrow this report brings you. May the knowledge that he made the supreme sacrifice for his home and country be a source of sustaining comfort.
I extend to you my deepest sympathy.

He sailed for overseas on his 20th birthday, Nov 5, 1944. He was a member of the US Seventh Army.
