Born in McArthur, OH., Margaret was the d/o Isaac Porter and Julianna Gustin. She was the sister of Hannah Jane, James Washington, Susan E. Clorinda and Charlotte. She married Jacob Hiram Courtney on Aug. 21, 1867 in Humeston, Wayne Co., IA. Together they had just one child, a daughter, named Mary Lillian. When Margaret was a teenager, she and some others were out picking wild grapes. She climbed up in a tree to reach some and fell out, her head landing on a log. She was in a coma for several months. The family would have to place a mirror under her nose to make sure she was breathing. When she woke up, she had to stay in bed for about a year.
It must have caused some sort of damage to her brain as she favored her right side from then on.
I have quilt top she pieced during this time that I have since had quilted.

She was my husband's great great grandmother.

Special thank to GARY MUMPER for helping me size the picture of an older Margaret.
