Artist H. Andre Blanchet, a resident of La Quinta, Calif. for 21 years, passed away April 27, 2010. He was born to Gladys and Herbert Blanchet November 10, 1925 in Long Island, N.Y. Previous to making La Quinta home, he and wife, Rosie, lived in Phoenix, Ariz. for 15 years and owned an art gallery in Reno, Nev. Rosie, his wife of thirty years, predeceased him. Educated at the distinguished Pratt Institute in New York, Andre was a member of the New York Art Students League. He has been published in several western art magazine covers, periodicals, books and posters. Andre was a treasured La Quinta artist whose works have been featured in many art shows, galleries and museums in California and Arizona. Known as the "artist whose work knows no boundaries", he painted original work along the mat of each print, adding to the owner's pleasure and art value. Among many art awards, he received the Silver Medal Award for Western Artists of America, has a permanent display at the Phoenix Museum of History, holds many First Place awards at valley art shows including the Indian Wells Fine Arts Festival 2006, received La Quinta City Purchase Awards 2003, 2004. His legacy mural at the La Quinta Historical Museum depicting the history of the City of La Quinta is permanently on display. Andre maintained an Advertising Agency in Newport Beach prior to settling in La Quinta. He was the originator of much Orange County graphic work, including the original and current logo for Coto de Caza. Andre was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946, having served aboard the USS Dale W. Peterson. Andre is survived by son, Douglas Bolton of Amarillo, Texas; daughter, Pamela Campbell of Hemet, Calif.; daughter, Cheryl McGrory of San Diego, Calif.; son, Ronald Bolton of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great grand-children.
