Wayne was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The family moved west to Arvin, California where his dad worked for The DiGorgio Fruit Coorporation. In 1947, following his dad's transfer to start the Grape Farms, the family settled in Borrego Springs, California. After graduating from Julian Union High School, Wayne married and moved to Northern California where he had three children: Rebecca, Debra, and Charles. For a brief period, he worked for the California Forestry as a fire fighter; and later in a body and paint shop in Northern California. After divorcing, he moved back to Borrego Springs in 1964.

Wayne managed a gas station while living in Borrego Springs. In 1966, he met Carol Bufford who was a teacher at the elementary school. On February 4, 1967 they married, at the Community Methodist Church. They had a daughter, Lucy. In 1968, the family went to Michigan for a summer vacation where Wayne and Carol both got jobs keeping them there. The following year another daughter, Lori was born. Wayne worked for Livonia public schools as a custodial supervisor from 1968 until he retired in November of 1996. Upon retirement, he moved to Beaverton, Michigan where he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and their friends participate in sports. Wayne was a wonderful man that made many lifelong friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years Carol; 4 children; Debra Barling, Charles (Grace) Barling, Lucy (Doug) Zeestraten, and Lori (Dave) Reed; brothers Jack, Henry, and Walter all of Borrego Springs and sisters; Betty Schmitt of Prescott Valley, AZ and Janet of Borrego Springs; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was pre deceased by a daughter; Rebecca Elmore and two sisters; Ramona Barling and Carolyn Goyer. He cherished every moment he spent with his family.

Visitation will be at Sisson Funeral Home 135 N. Silverleaf St., Gladwin, MI 48624 from 2-8 P.M. on Friday, July 21, 2017 with funeral on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12:00 Noon.
