Jane Wellin Ketler died peacefully in her home Oct. 20, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
She attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill. and graduated from Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, D.C. In 1950 she married and moved to Grove City, Pa., where she raised three children and was active in charitable, social and community activities. She was an avid tennis player, skier, gardener and bridge player.
She moved in the mid-1980s to Ponte Vedra Beach, where she enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends and continued to play tennis regularly until the onset of her disease.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Ruth Wellin; husband of 42 years, David W. Ketler; daughter, Ruth Ellen Ketler; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Weimer. Survivors include her son, Richard K. Ketler, and daughter-in-law, Sheila F. Ketler, of Dallas, Tex.; son, J. David Ketler of Ponte Vedra Beach; grandchildren, John K. Ketler, R. Pierce Tuttle and Paige M. Tuttle; brother, Keith S. Wellin; sister, Janis L. Notz; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends sincere appreciation to the many nurses and caregivers of North Florida Health Services who provided her comfort and dignity during the last several years of her life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 30 in Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to Alzheimer's Association, 2123 Mango Place, Jacksonville, Fla. 32207. Services under the direction of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach.
