The Marquis De La Falaise was born in Saint-Cyr-l'École, Ile-de-France, France to a family of French nobility. During World War I the Marquis had been awarded the very prestigious Croix de Guerre for bravery by the French Government.
In 1924, while serving as a translator on the set of the film "Madame Sans-Gêne" (1924), which was filming in France he met and fell in love with American screen legend Gloria Swanson (1899-1983). After their marriage on January 29, 1925 the Marquis moved to the United States but, the marriage to Swanson ended in divorce in November 1931. Later this same year the Marquis married another American film actress Constance Bennett (1904-1965). During his marriage to Bennett the Marquis produced and directed the films "Legong: Dance of the Virgins" (1935) and "Kliou the Tiger" (1936), the later being a vast and ambitious documentary filmed on location in the jungles of French Indo-China (today known as Vietnam). In 1931 prior to these films the Marquis directed two other films "Nuit d'Espagne " and "Échec au roi." The Marquis and Constance Bennett divorced in November 1940 and he married his third wife Emmita.
The Marquis was killed in a plane crash near Calvià on the island of Palma de Majorca, Spain on April 10, 1972.
