He served as judge of the Superior Court from 1975 to 1987, and was the Gila County Attorney from 1949 to 1954. He was also the attorney for the White Mountain Apache Tribe from 1956 to 1974. He was a World War II Navy Seabee veteran, a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, and a past member of both Globe Rotary and Lions Club. He was a professional boxer and Golden Globe recipient.

Interment was with military honors.

He was survived by his wife, Eunice of Globe; two daughters, Debbie Cameron of Chandler and Julie DeRose of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, Jerry DeRose of Globe and Lenny DeRose of Perryman, Md.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
