World War II Czech Partisan. A member of the Czech resistance to Nazi occupation, on May 27, 1942, he and Josef Gabcik parachuted into Prague, and attacked and killed Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich. After being betrayed, he committed suicide in the basement of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Prague rather than be handed over to the Nazis. Both Kubis and Gabcik were buried in a mass grave in Dablice Cemetery.
