Writer. Victim of the Holocaust. Petr was born in Prague, Czech Republic, which was Czechoslovakia at the time of his birth. Between the ages of 8 and 15, he wrote 5 novels which were illustrated with his own paintings. Their titles were From Prague to China, The Wizard from Altay Mountains, Around the World in One Second, and A Visit from Prehistory. Only the last of these five novels last today. Besides painting and literature, he also showed extensive talent in the sciences and languages. In October of 1942, he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp/ghetto with his family. While in the camp, he continued to write; he created the periodical magazine Vedem, an Esperanto-Czech dictionary, more short novels, and a short diary. This diary was published in English in 2007. He was sent to the Auschwitz death camp in Poland where he perished in the gas chambers at age 16.
