Otis Hayden Allen, Sr., age 86, of Asheboro, NC passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Balfour Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenneth Reaves and Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro, NC with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.

Hayden was born July 13, 1922 in Galax, VA to the late Jeremiah and Birdie Quesinberry Allen. He served his country in the Army's 29th Infantry during WWII where he was an Expert Marksman, serving in France and Germany. After World War II he and his father started Allen Machine & Supply Company, Inc. in Greensboro, NC. In 1960 he was instrumental in relocating the company to Asheboro, NC. Since retirement he enjoyed spending time at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ernestine Troxler Allen.

He is survived by his two sons, Otis Hayden Allen, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Asheboro, Charles L. Allen and wife, Sandra of Randleman, two brothers, Elmo Allen and wife, Elsie of Greensboro and Eldon "Eck" Allen and wife, Judy of Knightdale, NC; four grandchildren, Lee Allen and wife, Mary Burt of Albemarle, Todd H. Allen and wife, Debbie of Randleman; Amber Allen Bruner and husband, David of Cary; Tina Allen Bailey and husband, Lee of Richmond, VA; eight great-grandchildren; Katie Bailey, Joseph Bruner, Emily Bruner, Jacob Bruner, Dexter Allen, Sarah Allen, Meredith Allen and Jackson Allen and special friend and dance partner of 25 years, Loree Smith of Asheboro.
