Funeral services was held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the A.M.E. Zion Church, with Rev. J. C. Goode officiating, for Mrs. Nettie Avery Alexander, prominent colored woman, who died November 26, 1949 at her home here.

Mrs. Alexander was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Esther Williams, of New York City and Mrs. Omega Brown, of Middlesboro, two sons, Lincoln Alexander, Jr., of Hartford, Connecticut and Thomas Alton Alexander of Baltimore, Maryland, one sister, Mrs. Carrie Hicks of Detroit, Michigan, one brother Frank Avery of Detroit, two half-brothers, James and Joe Bozeman of Chicago, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Opelika, Alabama, the daughter of Ann and Brown Avery, she came to Middlesboro with her father when she was a young girl and has been a Middlesboro resident since that time. She was the widow of Lincoln Alexander, who died seven years ago.

Mrs. Alexander was an ardent church worker and particularly enjoyed doing missionary work in both the local church and in the conference. She was known throughout the Zion Connection, and her presence was expected at all the meetings. She also leaves a host of friends.
