A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at West Market Street United Methodist Church.
Rod was born in Elkin, N.C. He graduated from Ragsdale High School, Jamestown, N.C., and attended Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., prior to joining the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge # 602.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mon Clay Harris.
Rod is survived by his mother, Mildred Wall Harris; his wife of 34 years, Patricia Lind Harris; daughters, Thayer Harris Coleman and husband, Chris and Jennifer Harris Sumner and husband, Brad; sister, Jayne Harris; brothers, Lynn Harris and wife, Sherry and John Harris and wife, Denise; nine nieces; three nephews and also great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel.
