Abilene Reporter, July 19, 1999:

SLATON, TX — Roberta Johnson, 57, died Sunday at a local care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Bales officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Howard Cemetery near Desdemona, directed by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Stephenville. She married Paul Johnson on Oct. 10, 1959 in Granbury. She lived in Lubbock from 1960 to 1966, when she moved to Slaton. She attended Tarleton State University and graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Education and received her Master's of Education from Texas Tech University. She had previously worked for McMillian Trucking of Lubbock. She taught biology, business and computer science at Slaton High School. She was an administrative assistant in Slaton High School. She was the original organizer of the Project Celebration Drug Free Party and the Awards Ceremony in Slaton High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, Athenian Study Club, Slaton Classroom Teacher Association, and the Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.

Survivors include her husband of Slaton; one son, Greg Johnson of Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Paula Palmer of Burleson; her parents, Robert and Marie Halbert of Stephenville; one sister, Judy Ann Brown of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, Covenant Medical Center Lakeside Foundation, 4000 24th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
