His father owned land where part of the Kolb Cemetery is now located. Joe lived at times in Spencer (previously Munger), and also on Frisco Street in the city. Joe was a barber, and had several shops in Oklahoma City, one on Main Street and another on Shartel. At the time of his death, he lived at 1411 SW 26th Street in Oklahoma City, which was built ca. 1914-1916 by his wife's brother, Tom Casey. The family attended the Kentucky Ave. Baptist Church. Joe was very meticulous in his personal appearance, and despised getting his shined shoes muddy walking home from the bus or trolley stop, as the neighborhood had no sidewalks. In addition to his impeccable dress, he sported a mustache, and played a mean fiddle, quite often at local square dances.
