rachael minear was a teen-age bride during the civil war. she saw her husband and brothers shoulder muskets and march off with the union army. all her four brothers and her husband albert came back from the war unscathed.

she and her husband later decided to move to indian territory and endured an 18 day trip from their home in lancaster, missouri to a new home near adair, oklahoma. they failed to stake a claim in the land rush of 1889. they instead moved to the townsite of thomas, founded the town and built a hotel there.

Her parents were Walter Thompson born August 29, 1810. He died June 15, 1878. Martha Thompson born July 16,1815. She died October 8,1876.
