Bette L. Stockman (1937 - 2014)

FRIENDSHIP - Bette L. Stockman of 4 South St., Friendship, passed quietly in her sleep Monday (April 21, 2014) after a brief battle with cancer.

Bette was born Jan 14, 1937, in Cuba, to Ralph W. Stockman and Erna Keidel Stockman of Friendship.

Bette was employed as Friendship Town Clerk from January 1975 until her retirement on disability in 1986.

She was a member of the Salvation Army's Friendship service unit for 25 years. She was also a volunteer dispatcher for the Friendship Fire Department and Friendship Rescue Squad prior to the 911 system. She was a member of the board of trustees for the Friendship Free Library and served on the Freedom Fair and bicentennial committees.

Her hobbies included archaeology, writing, painting and reading.

She is survived by her siblings, Ralph K. (Beverly) Stockman of Wellsville and Stacy (Mike) Green of Friendship; a son, Mark Stockman (Judy) of Scotia; a granddaughter, Erica Stockman of Scotia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is proud to announce Bette chose to donate her body to the Anatomical Gift Program of SUNY Buffalo. Bette had a lifelong interest in learning, education and medicine, and her gift will help train the next generation of doctors.

Donations may be made to the Susan Myers memorial fund of the Friendship Free Library.
