After weeks of suffering, Mrs. Ellen Peer passed away at 8 o'clock on Sunday evening at the home of her son, William Peer, on East Main street. Mrs. Peer had been a partial invalid for several years, and had not been able to take active interest in affairs outside of her home. An attack of bronchial pneumonia set in, some weeks ago, with other complications at the last. Mrs. Peer was a woman of quiet tastes, kindly in manner, and beloved by a large circle of friends. Always deeply interested in religious matters, and especially in the work of the Episcopalian church, she was a devout member of St. John's church in Honeoye Falls.
Ellen Splaine was born in Altar, Ireland, in 1833, and came to this country when seventeen years of age. In early womanhood she was married to Andrew Peer, and their married life was spent in Canandaigua and Honeoye Falls. Eleven children were born of this marriage, eight surviving their mother. The husband died twenty three years ago, and for a time, Mrs. Peer continued to reside in Honeoye Falls, coming to this village several years ago to live at the home of her son.
The surviving children are: Mrs. E. J. Powell, of Emma, Colo.; Mrs. F. Stockman, of Dundee; Mrs. B. F. Lockwood, of Brookton; Mrs. Fred M. Locke and William Peer, of this village; Richard W., Benjamin L. and Andrew Peer, all of Rochester. One sister also survives, Mrs. Mary Melville, of Canandaigua, together with twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for the immediate family and friends were held at the home of her son here at 3 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Edwin P. Wood of the Universalist church. There were many beautiful flowers sent as loving tributes from relatives and friends.
On Wednesday morning the funeral party went to Honeoye Falls, where interment was made, with services in charge of the pastor of St. John's church.
