Alexander "Alex" Abramov of West Bend, age 75, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2002, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital of West Bend.

Alex was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Panchevo, Yugoslavia to the late Nikolai and Olga (nee Pishenina) Abramov. He married Helen Crepajac on July 3, 1952 in West Bend.

Alex attended the Cadet Academy in Belacirque, Yugoslavia, the University of Wisconsin Washington County and UW-Milwaukee, where he received a degree in social work. Alex worked at Tennies Buick, Slinger Foundry, Sundance Photo and the Threshold, Inc. He owned and operated, along with his wife and family, a cab and answering service.

Alex loved boating on Big Cedar Lake. The family kept the boat at Boettcher's Resort, where they also spent many happy summers. He enjoyed woodworking, model boat and train building, and camping.

He was a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans 2nd Wis., in which they gathered for Civil War reenactments. He has a great appreciation for all kinds of music in various languages, being fluent himself in Russian, Serbian, German and English.

Alexander is survived by his wife, Helen; a step-daughter, Natalia; three step-grandchildren, Christopher, Philip (Julie) Ward, and Victoria Saville; a brother-in-law, Luba (Lilika) Crepajac of Belgrade, Yugoslavia; a cousin, George (Tatiana) Pishenina; close friends, Gary and Jan Fisher; and many other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Olga; three great-grandchildren, Amber, Jasper and Dougie; a son-in-law, Bobby; and a brother-in-law George.

A gathering for family and friends, as a celebration of Alex's life, will be all day on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the family's home. An Orthodox service will be at 2 p.m., also at the family's home (145 Edgewood Lane, West Bend).

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the third and second floor nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital. We also want to thank Dr. Renee Leiknes for her efforts in treating a very stubborn patient. And to Galina Stasenko and her family, for their countless gifts of time, patience and creative special dishes to tempt his appetite. We are also grateful to the Paradise Cremation Services for attending to Alex's cremation and to Jim Phillip and the Phillip Funeral Home staff for attending to the needs of the family.
