"Cicero" was a valet at the British embassy in neutral Ankara who obtained classified documents for the German SS during World War II. He became a highly paid agent, but later discovered he had been compensated in counterfeit Pound notes. Today it is assumed that he was a double agent for the British MI6.

The 1952 film "5 Fingers" with James Mason was based on his life, and in 1962 Bazna authored the book "I was Cicero", in one popular edition subtitled "The Most Bizarre and Dangerous Spy of WWII Confesses - The Man Who Sold the Secrets of D-Day".
