Enlisted 16-May-61 in Co I, 6thNC Infantry as 2ndLt. Promoted to 1stLt in 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg. POW at Rappahannock Station, Va. on 7-Nov-63. Remained a POW for the remainder of the war - paroled 12-Jun-65. Was one of the "Immortal 600" - these were CSA officers used as human shields by Federal forces at Morris Island, SC in Sep/Oct 1864. Moved to Greensboro after the war, where he ran the Allen House Hotel.
