Note: This stone is one of fifty markers in the Confederate Soldier Burial Area at Oakwood Cemetery.
March 21, 1865 he was reported to have been wounded in the thigh at the Battle of Averasboro. He was admitted to the General Hospital #3, High Point, NC with a gunshot wound to the thight ( Severe) and reportly died March 28, 1865.
The Barbee Hotel was set up as a wayside Hosptial from 1863-1865 and was located directly across from the train depot in High Point. In March 1865 the hosptial was taken over by the government and renamed General Hosptial # 3. The register kept by the Barbee Hosptial lists Capt. Bl. Bennett Co F, 1 SS, died with no date listed as to his death. He was listed in Co. F, 1st South Carolina Infantry.
