John Edwin McKenzie, 43, of Wurtland, Kentucky entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 16, 2005 at his residence.

John was born Jan. 14, 1962 in Ironton, Ohio, a son to the late James Franklin McKenzie
and Cassie Evelyn Riffe McKenzie. He was proceeded in death by a brother James Russell McKenzie

John was an employee of Ray's Wholesale Inc. of Ashland, Ky. Anyone who truly knew John, knew he was not only a devoted employee but also a devoted friend to his "boss" Brenda Day. Her daughter Lindsay Day filled his heart with joy. He was a proud "parent" when it came to Lindsay. She and her mother were true blessings in his life. Everyone who worked at Ray's held a special place in his heart.
He worked with two of his best friends. Mark and Matt. They grew up across the street from each other. When someone would ask me about them I'd say "Matthew, Mark, Lotus and John" ;) Mark and Matt miss him. You'll find Lotus on find a grave :(

Surviving are his sister Vivian A. McKenzie of Raceland, Ky; two nieces, Laura McKenzie and Cassie Elizabeth Kinner; three nephews, Brandon Kinner, Jacob Kinner and Rodham Kinner; one great niece Morgan Hope McKenzie; one great nephew, Logan Isaiah John Wilson. John was also survived by his beloved dog Brownie "Wiener" McKenzie.

His funeral services were conducted on Oct. 21, 2005 at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky. by Dr. Tom Melvin. Private graveside services will be conducted at a later date.

John was my brother. His death has been the hardest thing I have ever faced in my life. He was going to be the one man I could absolutely count on to always be in my life... We were supposed to grow old together....

He was a wonderful friend. An extremely devoted uncle and one heck of a brother. He was always there when I needed him. His last words to me were, "Hey little sister. I love you." I love you too John. Hope you're up there hanging out with Lil' Red, Kendrick and Jean. Wow... what an honor... and now Peggy

Thank you for taking care of your Lil' Sis' when she needed you most. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for the 43 years we were blessed to have you in our lives. Thanks for the memories... I love you... Always

One year after his death I've woke up and realized John is gone and never coming back. I have to face and accept that.
I've looked back at his life and realized he was a diamond with many more facets than any one person would ever know. A brilliant diamond. Glittering, striking and distinctive.

He loved. Wow did he love. With passion. He loved his family, he loved his friends. Sadly I don't think John loved himself as he should have. If only he could have looked into a mirror, looked really hard and seen what we saw. Oh he was amazing.

Facing the fact that my brother died from an overdose of anti depressant has been very difficult for me. The "What if's" are never ending...

This was played at John's funeral...
He gave this song to me when I lived in Northern, Ky. During the early 90's. Many Cd's have come and gone but I still have the copy he gave me. Bless you John. I love you.

"Wind Beneath My Wings"

Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

At the rising of the sun and at its going down,
We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter,
We remember them.
At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring,
We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer, We remember them.
At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,
We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live;
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make,
We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs,
We remember them.
As long as we live, they too shall live, for they are a part of us, as we remember them.

Lorrie Morgan A Picture of Me (Without You) Lyrics
(Norris Wilson/George Richey)

Imagine a world where no music was playing
And think of a church with nobody praying
Have you ever looked up at a sky with no blue?
Then you've seen a picture of me without you

Have you walked in a garden where nothing was growing
Or stood by a river where nothing was flowing
If you've seen a red rose unkissed by the dew
Then you've seen a picture of me without you

Can you picture heaven with no angels singing
Or a quite Sunday morning with no church bells ringing
If you've watched as the heart of a child breaks in two
Then you've seen a picture of me without you

Can you picture heaven with no angels singing
Or a quite Sunday morning with no church bells ringing
If you've watched as the heart of a child breaks in two
Then you've seen no picture of me without you
Then you've seen no picture of me without you

I sign the flowers I leave for him with Lil' Sis cause that's who I was to him. I called him Big Bro' cause that's who he was to me. Who he is to me...

I Love you John!

Special note: My daughter posted a letter her uncle John wrote about her. It's in the flowers section. Anyone who visits here should go read it. Thank you.
