A native of Lee County, Mr. Covert was born May 15, 1896, to James Monroe and Laura Wicker Covert. A resident of Greensboro, since 1922, he was owner and CEO of Carolina Realty for 56 years. He was a World War I veteran, serving in the Rainbow Division under Douglas McArthur, a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and a greeter and was a member of the Caldwell Service Class. He was the first president of The Real Estate Board and past president of the Exchange Club. Mr.
Surviving are his wife, Pat Covert of the home; son, Joseph Lee Covert of Greensboro; granddaughter, Mary Joe Covert; and great-grandson, Dexter Earp.
