Margareth Bergmann was baptized in Salem Lutheran and Reformed Congregation, More township, Northhampton County, Pennsylvania.

Margaret Bergman Bannse crossed the plains in 1855 at age 19 as a member of Dr. Keil's German Colony. She, her mother Elizabeth Bergman, and a sister were part of Dr. Keil's company. Mrs. Elisabeth Bergman, Margaret's mother, came to the Bethel Colony in Missouri in 1845 with two children and no means of support. She stayed with the colony in Oregon until its dissolution on March 20, 1881.

Herman Bannse married Margaret Bergman at Aurora, Oregon, on August 8, 1860.

Sometime prior to the 1870 Census Margaret and Herman moved to Bucoda, WA, which became their permanent home.

The 1900 Census lists her birth year as 1837. Cemetery records say 1836 as do Aurora Colony records.
