LYNN SOLDIER IS KILLED IN VIETNAM

A 22-year old soldier was killed in action in Vietnam Tuesday where he had been serving with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Pfc. Edward Anderson, 11 Allen Ave., died of wounds sustained when he was struck by enemy artillery fire while on duty in the demilitarized Zone.

The husband of Mrs. Cleo (Rocker) Anderson, he was drafted into the Army last October and received training at Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Polk. La., prior to leaving for Vietnam, March 23.

A native of Lynn he was the son of Mrs. Jane Anderson, 9 Connolly Ter., and the late Charles Anderson.

A versatile athlete, he was formerly prominent in amateur boxing circles in Lynn.

Services for Army Cpl. Edward Anderson, formerly of 11 Alan Ave., who was killed in action in Phu Bai, Vietnam on May 14, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Mount Olive Church of God in Christ.

Last night a delegation of more than 300, including Lynn City Councilors and representatives from various veterans organizations and their auxiliaries, went to Logan Airport to conduct a ceremony as the body of the Lynn soldier arrived by military transport.

Cpl. Anderson was the husband of Mrs. Cleo (Rocker) Anderson and the son of Mrs. Annie Anderson.

He also leaves three brothers, Charles, George and Eugene, and eight sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Hope, Mrs. Barbara Brown, Mrs. Annie Mae Antwine, Mrs. Ella Johnson, Miss Joanne Anderson, Miss Susan Anderson, Miss Naomi Anderson and Miss Mary Anderson, all of Lynn.
