James Raymond Fox, 84, of Sandstone, died 3:30 p.m. Tues. July 16, 1996, in a Fairlea hospital following a short illness.

Born Oct. 12, 1911, at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Harvey and Sallie Mitchell Fox.

Mr. Fox was a lifelong resident of Sandstone, a member of the Hinton Church of Christ and retired July 1, 1977 from the Summers County Board of Education after 39 1/2 years of teaching.

He was a graduate of Concord Normal School, received his Bachelor's Degree from West Virginia University and his Master's Degree from West Virginia University in 1967.

Mr. Fox was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the board of West Virginia Gospel Sing Association at Mt. Nebo and had served as adviser for the Future Farmers of America at Sandstone High School for many years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jewell K. Fleshman on Sept. 29 1990 and a brother, Bob Fox.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bernice Morgan Fox; two daughters, Geneva Tichenor of Beckley and Cathy Bowles of Jumping Branch; a sister, Madeline Callison of Spring Dale; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Fri. July 19th at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton with Larry Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
