Ira Vandall Jr., 69, of Nimitz, died 12:45 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 1998, in a Hinton hospital following a short illness.

Born Sept. 9, 1928, at Elton, he was a son of Clara Goddard Vandall of Hinton and the late Ira H. Vandall.

Mr. Vandall was a self employed contractor and business owner. He was a former police officer for the city of Hinton, and served as chief of police 1973-75. He was a former deputy sheriff of Summers County and was also employed by Bluestone Motor Company in Hinton. Mr. Vandall was a retired miner from the Eastern Associated Coal Company, Harris No. 1 Mine, and was a member of the Local Union No. 1503 of the UMWA. He was a member of the Hinton Church of Christ and served as a trustee and treasurer of the church for 26 years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dallas H. Vandall, in 1985.

Other survivors include his wife, Minnie C. Gwinn Vandall; two sons, Alan K. Vandall of Orlando, Fla., and Greg S. Vandall and his wife, Shirley, of Princeton; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Paula) Wykle Jr. of Beckley and Mrs. Keith (Angie) Foster of Beckley; a sister Mae Burgess of Pipestem; and four granddaughters, Haley and Heidi Vandall and Makayla and Delaney Wykle.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Fri., Mar. 27th. at the Hinton Church of Christ with Ministers Gale Yoho and Larry Harrington officiating. Burial followed in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.

Pallbearers were W.R. (Bill) Gore, Lovell Williams, Jerry Spicer, Jack Roop, Paul Wykle, and Gary Browning.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the Hinton Area Foundation Scholarship Fund, c/o National Bank of Summers, Hinton.
