Mrs. Gwendolyn V. Johnson, 82, died Thursday, September 28, at 6:10 a.m. at her home following a long illness.

Born January 15, 1907, in Crellian, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Anna Mae Bittgner Frantz.

Mrs. Johnson was a 63-year resident of Brooks, was a member of the Church of Christ at Hinton and was a retired postmistress at Brooks with 14 years of service.

She and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 6, 1989.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Johnson in June of 1966; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, D. S. (Doll) Johnson at home; two sons, Jerry S. Johnson of Glenville and Curtis W. Johnson of Newton Falls, Ohio; seven daughters, Mrs. Barbara Cales of Spokane, Wash., Nancy Neely of Hinton, Mrs. Maxine Payne of Millboro Springs, Virginia, Annabelle Bennett of Covington, Va., Mrs. Mary Alice Tucker and Mrs. Dorothy Tucker, both of Columbus, Oh. and Mrs. Linda Pack of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Florence Tomack of Sweet Springs; 28 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday October 1 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ at Hinton with Philip Strattis officiating. Burial followed at the Fox Cemetery at Brooks.
