Thirty-two- year-old Herbert Neil Johnson, his 24-year-old wife Kathryn, and six-year-old son James, were killed when the single engine Beechcraft Musketeer, in which they were passengers, crashed and burned on Main Street near 215th in Carson, California. The pilot of the plane, their friend Richard Schilling, was pulled alive from the fiery wreckage with second and third degree burns over 75 percent of his body. But the flames were too hot for the Good Samaritans to rescue the Johnson family. The plane's wing had fallen onto a car, from which its five occupants escaped unharmed.
