When I was in 5th grade I had a cat named Kitters. He went missing during the winter and when the snow melted away we found him along the road where he had been hit by a car. I was really upset so my mom told her friend that we'd take one of her kittens when they were ready. While we were waiting for the kittens to be old enough, a black & white cat showed up on our front porch and I fell in love. I named her Princess and I convinced my mom to let me keep her. Since my mom had told her friend we'd take a kitten she didn't want to go back on her word so a couple weeks later we drove to Wal-Mart in Fairmont, WV and met up with the woman. She had two kittens left; one boy and one girl. I fell in love with the boy and my mom took a liking to the girl. Neither of us wanted to put our kitten back down, so we took them both. Mine was a pure black little boy with green eyes and mom's was a mostly black calico. I named him Hunter and mom named hers Precious. A few weeks later my brother brought home a long haired grey and white cat named Viper. And then, while walking home one day my foster sister found an orange kitten along the road....she named him Jellybean. So, in the course of a month or two we went from one cat, to no cat, to five cats.

I was 10 years old when I got Hunter and he was an amazing cat. His mother was Siamese and his father was an orange cat who had lived through getting hit by a car, but he was left with one ear, one eye, three legs, and no tail. He was completely black with gorgeous big green eyes and he had huge fangs. Over the years he grew more and more and at his heaviest he weighed about 18 pounds. Right before his death he went down to about 6 pounds.

Hunter, or Neener as I called him, was such a loyal cat. He would follow me to the bridge behind my house, stop there, and wait on me for hours when I walked to my friends house. I'd come home and he'd be sitting there watching for me. He loved to play with shoe-strings, he loved canned cat food and if he heard the can-opener or heard a can being opened he'd come running. He always had the stinkiest breath and the stinkiest farts! He also had allergies that caused him to sneeze ALL THE TIME...lol.

When I was a Junior in high school he went missing. We looked for him everywhere and we couldn't find him. We moved to a town around 30 miles away about a month after he went missing and I thought he was long gone. My brother's girlfriend was looking at the newspaper and out of nowhere decided to look in the classifieds. There was an ad that said "FOUND: LARGE BLACK CAT (male) with a white collar. Found in Tennerton area. Has had shots and is neutered. Call to claim or adopt. (03-09-05)". There was no phone # listed so we went to The Record Delta and asked if there was a number we could call. They found the # and we called and I knew the people who had him. I used to play on their land when I was little, and they remembered me too. They were an older couple, The Carpenter's, and we went directly to their house and when I saw him I knew it was him even though he'd been missing for over a year! :) They had taken him in after he repeatedly was found on their back porch eating cat food with some skunks, and they took him to the vet and got his shots and medicine for his allergies. They had over $100 in vet bills, but told us we didn't need to repay them. I brought him home and he was able to meet his 2 new sisters, Mika & Marliegh. He lived here in Clarksburg with us as an inside cat until his death in 2008.

He started losing weight and his eye looked funny so we took him into the vet in January 08' and he was given medicine for his allergies and an ointment for his eye. The doctor also said he needed some of his teeth pulled because they were infected. While at the vet he jumped off the examining table and began to limp. The vet checked his leg and said he appeared to be fine, but if he kept favoring his leg to bring him back in. He continued to limp on and off, but we thought he was okay. He started to lose weight very quickly and limp worse, but I didn't have the money to take him back to the vet so I doctored him as well as I could. He pretty much stopped eating and I think it was because of his teeth being infected. He also pretty much stopped walking and my heart was breaking. I debated whether or not I should get him put to sleep, but I thought that if he had gotten better so many other times, and if he was found after a year of being gone, he would pull through this too. Then one day he started walking again and he started eating more. I thought he was going to be okay. Then within a day or two he began to cry alot and he got worse again. I heard him in my room crying so I went to check on him and he had fallen down in front of my door. I picked him up and he was crying so loudly that I broke down and started to bawl. I carried him to the living room and put him in the floor and I didn't know what to do. I just cried and tried to comfort him, and as he cried I kissed him and apologized to him for letting him get so bad. When I said "I'm sorry..I love you" he stopped breathing. In a few days he would have been 9 years old. He's buried in our backyard and he was buried with a shoestring because he loved to play with them :)

He was my best friend when humans let me down for almost 9 years. I'll never have a cat that will come close to him in many ways. He didn't come to "Here kitty kitty"...he was like a dog and came to whistling. If I asked him to give me lovins, he would wipe his mouth against mine....such beautiful kisses :) He didn't really meow...he made a very quiet "Mra" noise, and he LOVED getting belly rubs :) He was my "best boy" and my baby and I will forever love and miss him.
