"A memorial service for Russell Bacon, 102, Aberdeen, formerly of Northville, was held Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Thelen Funeral Home, Redfield, with the Rev. Jon Damaska officiating. Cremains burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Northville. The Thelen Funeral Home, Redfield, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bacon died March 15, 2006, at Bethesda Home, Aberdeen. He was born October 18, 1903 in Leon, Iowa, to Fred and Stella (Schwab) Bacon. He attended Northville Country School. He married Berlien Johnson August 26, 1925, in Redfield. They farmed near Northville until moving to the Parkside Apartments in Aberdeen in 1993. He had lived at the nursing home since 2001. Russell and Berlien celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary in 2005.He was a member of the Farmers Union, Spink County Senior Citizens, United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge. He especially loved his cattle, sheep and farm. He enjoyed traveling and took many trips on the Farmers Union bus. He enjoyed many sports in which his children and grandchildren participated. Survivors include his wife: Berlien, Aberdeen; two sons: Donald (Arlis) Bacon, Northville, and Jim (Georgia) Bacon, Custer; eight grandchildren: Michael (Randa) Bacon, Kim (Sally) Bacon, Terry (Gail) Bacon, Randy (Michelle) Bacon, Kent (Lynn) Bacon, Mrs. Jeff (Darlene) Stulken, Travis Bacon and Scott Bacon; and 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and daughter-in-law (Dean and Jean Bacon), one brother, one sister, three step-brothers and one step-sister."
