He was a veteran of World war II serving in the 4th Marine Division and the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. He fought in the battles of Iwo-Jima, Tinian, Siapan and Roi-Namur. Ernie worked in the Steel Mill for better then 44 years.

This information came from his sister "Alice". James has been a super great brother to Alice and his death has been hard on her. She so misses him.
