Roger Dee Toomer, 71, of Montpelier passed away on July 26, 2017 at his home following a brief illness.

Roger was born on November 1, 1945. He was the youngest child of Alfred Lee and Ireta Roberts Toomer. Little Roger Dee was welcomed home by 3 brothers and 3 sisters who were all more than eager to love and spoil this bundle of joy. He attended school in Montpelier. Roger was #44 on the high school football team and sang in the choir. He graduated from Montpelier High in 1964.

Roger married Nancy Lee Bentsen on July 18, 1964. Shortly after the couple welcomed a daughter, Jody Lin. Their son Randall Lee joined the family a few years later on March 7, 1968. Nancy passed away in 1991.

As a young man Roger worked for the Coca-Cola company and Tapper’s Chevrolet before choosing the oil industry to be his life long career.

During his life, Mr. Toomer enjoyed many things. They ranged from being an avid hunter and fisherman to cruising his boat on the Lake, or playing 18 holes on the golf course. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars. Of course nothing could top spending time with his children or grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his two children, Jody Brayton and Randy Toomer; Five grandchildren, Amy (BJ) Bowen, Alisha Wheeler, Roger Jens Logsdon, Joshua Toomer and Trevor Toomer; 9 great grandchildren; Three sisters, Janeen Pugmire, Uleta Schrock and Cheryl Rhyne; One brother Blake Toomer; and his long- time companion Nola Parr.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, mother Ireta, father Alfred Lee, step-father Leo and two brothers, Jack and Tip.

Graveside services will be held at Montpelier Cemetery on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.

Friends and family are invited to a luncheon after the service at 12:00 p.m. in the Montpelier 4th Ward LDS Church

DAD

We'll always remember
that special smile,
that caring heart,
that warm embrace,
you always gave us.
You being there
for Mom and us
through good and bad times,
no matter what.
We'll always remember
you Dad because
they'll never be another one
to replace you in our hearts,
and the love we will always
have for you.

GRANDPA'S GONE TO HEAVEN

One quite day the angels came
And took grandpa far away
But in the stillness of the night
I could almost hear him say

"Dear Grandchild, I will miss you
You mean so much to me
But Jesus called me to His side
In Heaven I will be

A place of God's great beauty
No tears or earth cares
Only peace and joy forever
And love beyond compare

So remember all the good times
Don't think about the sad
Treasure the years we've always had

And if you trust in Jesus
I can promise this and more
You will get a hug from grandpa
Someday on Heaven's golden shore"

My Hero

You held my hand
When I was small
You caught me when I fell
You're the hero of my childhood
And my later years as well

And every time I think of you
My heart still fills with pride
Though I'll always miss you
I know you're by my side

In laughter and in sorrow
In sunshine and through the rain
I know you're watching over me
Until we meet again

GOD MADE UNCLES

God knew the need for someone
To add humor to our hearts.
Someone who would spice
Our lives with laughter and mischief.
Someone we could run to
For special comfort and friendship;
Someone whose life would
Touch ours in a
Hundred different ways...
So He made Uncles.

WHEN IT WAS TOMORROW

When I saw you smiling and talking it was yesterday
When you were taken it was today
But in my heart you will always stay
Your voice, your wisdom, your speech and your right so free
Not knowing all that you could have been
Taken away like a tide ashore
Now you are dead, I regret never saying how much I love you so
Oh how I cry my self to sleep at night and praying that God keep your soul at peace
Now and forever more you will always be the one I adore
Just your voice makes me want to be better
Now you in that heavenly place
On the wings of the heavenly dove soaring so high above
It has been Two years since your life came to its early departure
Some times I wonder if it happens for a reason
God has a purpose for all of us
That's why he took you so suddenly
Although I will never understand why so soon
Death is something we have to live with
Death has no back or front door
When the time comes we all have to endure
So rest in peace till we meet
In eternity you will safely be.

UNCLE
Kind, loving, generous,
cheeky, playful, adventurous.
Full of laughter, full of fun,
could get a smile from anyone.
Uncle
When God gave us gifts
he tried to be fair,
but when we got you
we got more than our share.

FISHERMAN'S PRAYER
By Sheila Simmons

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble,
with my fishing pole in hand.
Why I almost feel like another Bill Dance,
not just an ordinary fisherman.
Forgive me when I stretch the truth.
about the one that got away
Why we both know he's in the lake,
waiting to be caught another day.
Calm me oh Lord, when my temper flares
When my lines become tangled
and I begin to swear.
Help me to look upon my fishing buddy
with patience, and grace
Why just look at the big one's he's catching;
I'd like to punch him in the face!
Lord please help me to think up a story,
to tell to that wife of mine
I told her I'd be home hours ago,
I just lost track of time.
