CSA - Private, Company D, 42nd Virginia Infantry. Enlisted Lynchburg, VA 7-15-1861. One of three men who joined the 1st TN Infantry in action at Mingo Flats, WV September 11, 1861. Wounded in left arm by minie ball and buckshot at Cedar Run. Present 10-31-1862. Broke foot Fredrick City, MD (1863) by falling through cellar grate. Present 1-18-64. Captured 5-12-1864 in Spotsylvania Court House after being wounded in the left leg and right arm by shell. Point Lookout, MD 5-18 to 8-3-1864, detained in Elmira, NY 8-6-1864 until 6-19-1865. When released on oath he was 6 foot 0 inches tall, dark eyes, hair and complexion.

Elijah Fletcher Alcock, the son of George Washington Alcock and Naomi Keith Leftwich, was the oldest grandchild of Lynch Adams Leftwich, Sr. and Ellen Howell Leftwich.

OBITUARY: George W. Alcock, aged about 75 years, a retired farmer and Confederate veteran, died Sunday night at his home near Forest. He had long been an invalid, and his wife, who survives him, has also been an invalid for some time. Mr. Alcock was wounded in one of his limbs during the war and he never fully recovered from that. In addition to his wife, the deceased is survived by three daughters, one son and two sisters, one of the latter being Mrs. Sarah Leftwich of Forest.
