In loving Memory of Roberto Colagiacomo, 55, died October 5, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rome Italy, he was the beloved father of Figlia and husband of Catherine, whom he called 'Caren', beloved son of Silvio Colagiacomo and Anna D'Angelo, Roberto was one of four children. He left behind his older brother Virgilio Colagiacomo and sisters Clara Colagiacomo and Rita Feliziani. Roberto is greatly missed by family, friends, and in-laws Giuseppe and Grace Mazzeo of Sydney Australia and family.
He was loved across two continents and his name is spoken of with immense love by all who knew him and still miss him.
Roberto grew up in post war Rome where his memories of growing up and living the fantastic years of the 1950s and 60s were still vivid to him until his death. Surrounded by friends and his brother Virgilio, Roberto enjoyed a tremendous youth. He joined the Italian Police Force as a young 18 year old. He looked much younger than his years and was often asked if he was actually old enough to be in uniform. Roberto completed his Military duty at Caserta.
Roberto dedicated himself passionately to his work in the Polizia Municipale di Roma as an officer of the Law until his death. By the end of his life, he had reached the prestigious grade of Funzionario Direttivo. His Police department will never forget him for his high professional standard demonstrated over his entire career in Police Conduct, Uniform and Knowledge of Police Law. He was both an Instructor and Supervisor of Police training and department. He was greatly respected and is still missed by his colleagues.
Roberto's life worked extended beyond upholding the Law and Police work in the principle city zone of Rome. He joined the laymen of the Collegio Liberium of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore of Rome where he served the Catholic Community extensively and participated in many aspects of plain clothed police work and lay work in assisting the religious community and also Pope Paul II in the Vatican.
Roberto also worked as a volunteer in the earthquake rescue squad of Sept 97
and dedicated time as a volunteer summer camp director to take disadvantaged youths away for vacation. Roberto helped many people outside his work using his position to assist all people he could to overcome problems they were facing.
Roberto's greatest love of all was his only child FIGLIA, whom he lived for and dedicated all that he did and had for her happiness. Roberto loved his family without measure. He also had a very special love for Sydney Australia where he travelled frequently and made his second home.
He will be missed for his great sense of humour, his attentive eye for detail and proper and fair conduct, discipline and fine manners. He displayed flawless courage until the last day and never complained about any aspect of his illness, but prayed every day for more strength to battle for life.
