Sylvester was the son of Cecila Brewer Burrell and John Burrell of Tuscarora, NY. Sylvester was the brother of Ella Burrell Redner and James Burrell. Sylvester married Harriet Wise on July 4, 1927 in Millport, NY.
Sylvester was the father of Charles, Dolores, Allen, Michael and Diane.
Sylvester died in a fire in Elmira, NY on November 6, 1952, he was 50 years old.
I was in that fire along with Mom, Mike and Jim.
Dad never had a chance. He went to put water on for coffee and the gas stove blew and blew him backwards.
His death certificate says that he died of suffocation and then burns. At 5, I remember looking down the hallway, Dad laying on the floor.
Jim (Allen) called for help and the rest of us were able to get out safely, but it was too late for Dad.
Services were held at Davis Funeral Home with Dr. William Willis officiating.
Pallbearers were Joseph Ferris, John White, Gene Baldwin and Richard Kinkade. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
