Eleanor Rose Jacobsen, a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend, gently passed away on September 3, surrounded by her family at her home in Corte Madera, California. Born Eleanor Rose Allcock on January 23, 1927, in Monett, Missouri, she was the youngest of four daughters of Eula Mae Majors and William Lawrence Allcock. After growing up in Monett and graduating from Monett High School, Eleanor eventually moved to San Francisco, where she met and married Henry Thrane Jacobsen in 1955. Settling in San Pedro, California, they were married for 48 years, raising two children, Melissa Duggan of Corte Madera, and Henry Jacobsen of Menifee, California. She enjoyed volunteering at school, bowled in leagues, played golf, and was an active and devoted member of the Laureate Eta Chi chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Eleanor and Henry loved searching together for antiques, scouring the state for treasures from the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition. She also embarked on many travel adventures with her husband, family, and friends. Eleanor was a direct relative of Alexander Majors, one of the founders of the Pony Express. She was welcomed into heaven by her husband Henry, her mother Eula, and her sisters, Betty and Nanette Allcock. She is survived and will be missed by her sister, Billie McCarthy of San Rafael, California; Melissa and Patrick Duggan, Henry and Melanie Jacobsen; grandchildren, Michael Duggan, Anthony Jacobsen, Gabriel Jacobsen and Armando Jacobsen, and by all who were touched by her laugh and her loving heart.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in Rolling Hills Estates, to be preceded by a private interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in Eleanor's memory may be made to the Long Beach Memorial Hospital Stroke Center, or to the charity of your choice.
