Celebration of Life Services for Virgil Henry Dodd, Jr., 87, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Reverends Mark Bray and Willis Dear officiating. Interment will immediately follow in
Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Centuries.
Mr. Virgil H. Dodd, Jr. was born June 18, 1923 in Lassitter, Texas to the late Virgil H. Dodd, Sr. and Selva Jane Lee Dodd and was called home following a brief illness on November 6, 2010 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Dodd was a member of Summer Grove United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Virgil loved hunting and raising beagles. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, a caring grandfather and a caring friend to those who knew him best.
Preceding Mr. Dodd in passing are parents, Selva Lee and Virgil Henry Dodd, Sr., sister, Estelle Starnes and son, Jeffrey Wayne Dodd. Left to cherish beautiful memories of Virgil will be his beloved wife of 65 years, Myrtle Harrison Dodd, one son, V. Henry Dodd, III and wife Janet, two daughters, Anita Lockwood and husband Buddy and Shanna Renee Dodd; 12 grandchildren; Angie McEachern, Paul Dodd, Patrick Dodd, Peyton Dodd, Mark Lockwood, Michael Lockwood, Skye Smith, Matt Callicoatte, Chase Callicoatte, Jared Dodd, Colby Dodd and Alanna Dodd; 10 great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Honoring Mr. Virgil Dodd, Jr. as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Moller and staff, Dr. Arnold Barz and staff and the sitters from Home Instead for caring for Virgil during his time of illness.
