Dorotha, born in East Haven CT, was the daughter of Matthew Moulthrop 3rd and Mary Brockett. She married Samuel Potter on 1 June 1738, who died in 1756, along with their three daughters, of Camp Distemper.

Not long after her husband's death, she fell from a horse and broke her hip. She was a cripple for the rest of her life. Her only remaining children, two teen-age sons, supported her. Samuel worked the farm and Jacob worked outside to pay the doctor. When the boys became men, they divided the farm: Samuel took all on one side of the river and the house and the barn; Jacob was on the other side of the river, built a house and barn and raised his family there.

After their mother's death in 1793, the boys migrated to Oneida Co., NY, along with many other residents of Northbury (since renamed Plymouth).Potter, Dorotha, died December 31, 1793, aged 82 yrs ('relic' of Samuel Potter)
